Šiauliai
Located in northern Lithuania on the Baltic plain. Šiauliai is the gateway to the Hill of Crosses, one of the most moving pilgrimage sites in Europe, where over 100,000 crosses, rosaries and votive offerings have been placed as a powerful symbol of Lithuanian resistance – even Soviet rule could not erase this site. The Sundial Square in the city centre recalls Šiauliai's nickname City of the Sun and is framed by historic bourgeois townhouses. The fourth-largest city in Lithuania offers an authentic northern window into Baltic everyday life well away from Vilnius and Riga.
