Switzerland

Located at the foot of the Jura mountains in the Swiss Midlands, Solothurn is one of the oldest cities north of the Alps. Solothurn is considered the finest baroque city in Switzerland, and indeed the number eleven pervades the entire city: 11 churches, 11 chapels, 11 fountains and 11 historical towers grace the townscape. The Cathedral of St Ursus and Victor and the imposing town hall define the magnificent cityscape, which sits at a picturesque bend of the Aare river. In summer the Aare beckons for refreshing river swimming, a beloved local tradition.
