Suceava
Suceava is the gateway to Bukovina and thus the starting point for one of Romania's most spectacular cultural journeys: the painted monasteries of Moldavia with their vivid exterior frescoes from the 15th and 16th centuries, which are on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The medieval fortress of the Moldavian princes overlooks the city and recalls the era when Suceava was the capital of the Principality of Moldavia. Rural Bukovina with its colourful folk costumes, vibrant traditions and unspoilt nature offers travellers authentic encounters well off the beaten tourist track.
