Trenčín
Trenčín is dominated by one of Slovakia's most impressive castles, which perches on a sheer rock above the Váh river and commands the cityscape from afar. A Latin inscription carved into the rock commemorates the winter quarters of the Roman Legio II Adiutrix in 179 AD, marking the northernmost documented Roman presence in Slovakia. The Pohoda Festival, one of Slovakia's largest music festivals, is held each year at Trenčín Airport and attracts visitors from across Central Europe.
