Wittenberg

Germany

Located on the river Elbe in Saxony-Anhalt between Berlin and Leipzig, Wittenberg is the cradle of the Reformation. Lutherstadt Wittenberg is the birthplace of the Reformation – it was here that Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the Castle Church door in 1517, changing the course of world history. The Luther memorial sites, including the Luther House, Melanchthon House and Castle Church, are recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The peaceful old town invites a walk in the footsteps of the Reformation, vividly illustrating this small city's immense significance for European history.
